![]() ![]() Unlike diets that label foods as “good” or “bad,” intuitive eating focuses on honoring hunger with foods that benefit both physical and mental health. The origins of intuitive eating may be murky, but its core message is clear: Intuitive eating is anti-diet and focused on building a healthy body image, making peace with food, and listening to the body. Poet Geneen Roth started writing about emotional eating in 1982. Several years later, Susie Orbach published Fat is a Feminist Issue, which outlines how to end dieting and food anxieties. In 1973, Thelma Wayler founded Green Mountain, a non-diet community emphasizing sustainable habits for long-term health. However, they were not the first people to teach the principles of this eating method. It promotes body positivity and focuses on recognizing and honoring hunger.ĭietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch coined the term “intuitive eating” in their 1995 book, Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Diet Approach. Intuitive eating is an eating method that encourages a healthy relationship with food. ![]()

![]() The looting now is accelerating as never before. This catastrophic social disintegration is not merely a continuation of Africa's past as a colonial victim. The ground beneath their feet is as precarious as a Congolese mine shaft their prosperity could spill away like crude from a busted pipeline. And the vagaries of resource-dependent economies could pitch Africa's new middle class back into destitution just as quickly as they climbed out of it. The oil, copper, diamonds, gold and coltan deposits attract a global network of traders, bankers, corporate extractors and investors who combine with venal political cabals to loot the states' value. In his first book, The Looting Machine, Tom Burgis exposes the truth about the African development miracle: for the resource states, it's a mirage. While Africa accounts for about 30 per cent of the world's reserves of hydrocarbons and minerals and 14 per cent of the world's population, its share of global manufacturing stood in 2011 exactly where it stood in 2000: at 1 percent. ![]() During the years when Brazil, India, China and the other "emerging markets" have transformed their economies, Africa's resource states remained tethered to the bottom of the industrial supply chain. ![]() ![]() The trade in oil, gas, gems, metals and rare earth minerals wreaks havoc in Africa. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The pleasure of popular fiction - be it the detective novel, the legal thriller or the paperback romance - always lies in its blend of the predictable and the surprising. ![]() Nevertheless, the very fact that Weiner always seems to be intelligently pondering the genre's formulas, whether or not she ends up lapsing into them, is what makes her novels enjoyable, easy reads that are also thought-provoking. ![]() This aspect of the novel is less successful, and works best as a kind of intermittent parody, such as when the two women stop to withdraw cash from Addie's savings account, and Val suggests that they rob the place (Valerie to teller: "We need ten Gs in unmarked, nonsequential bills." Addie: "Ignore her, she doesn't have a gun." Valerie: "Do so." Addie: "Valerie, that's a tampon case." ). Their trip, however, is not a genuine flight from the law (or, at least, not a very convincing one ) rather, the circumstances that lead to their departure seem contrived to advance the plot's main focus - Addie's gradual emergence from the lonely bubble in which she has secluded herself over the years. Weiner has said that in "Best Friends Forever" she wanted to answer the question, "What if Thelma and Louise didn't have to die?" The set of events that cause Addie and Val to hit the road in an ancient station wagon, trailing a cloud of blue smoke, do include rape and an act of retribution that sets police chief Novick on their trail. ![]() ![]() ![]() Once someone starts reading the novel, it is very hard to leave it without finishing, as its, each page keeps users on the edge of the seat. ![]() Its story entertains the readers of all the ages and keeps that engage with unexpected twists and turns. I was amazed to find out that all the connections we make in life are with people we’ve met in our past life. One of the author’s subsequent books has been lying on my bookshelf since a decade and I hadn’t opened it. This book falls under the genre of ‘Psychology and Counseling’. ‘Intriguing, thought provoking, will change the way you feel about life and death’- is how I would describe ‘Many Lives, Many Masters’, in one line. ![]() |
